Finding the perfect essay topic isn’t always an easy feat. This is something you need to be very interested in writing about or the process of writing will be very dull and tedious. When you have interest, passion or excitement about your topic, it’s so much easier to do the work.

Sometimes brainstorming involves research, especially in a subject you don’t have a lot of knowledge or experience in. Looking around for ideas is a great way to do that. Some places you can look include: newspapers, magazines, books, online and talking to people. Brainstorming involves thinking and is very effective when done in a small group of people. Having someone else to bounce your ideas off of is a great way to accomplish this. Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. Are there some issues or problems revolving around my main topic?
  2. Are there some emerging theories or traditional examples of research that can be used to describe my topic?
  3. What questions do I have when I think about my topic?
  4. Are there any unusual terms that should be defined for more clarity with my topic?
